Individual Artist Fellowship, Media
Vivacious writer and bold photographer, Melissa Sweazy is a film director, producer and screen writer; and may or may not have been the coveted photographer at your best friend’s wedding. She has won numerous awards for her work in both directing and screenwriting, including the honor of being a top 10 finalist in the Venice Film Festival’s Biennale Collaege in 2014. She now runs a photography business and is as passionately immersed in the independent film scene as she is in her parenting blog, Thoroughly Modern Medusa.
Sweazy studied at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., where she received her BFA in English with a creative writing concentration before moving to work in Los Angeles in television and film development. She has since returned to Memphis where she lives with her husband and two children.
The Individual Artist Fellowship awards professional artists who have exhibited excellence in their discipline of choice. For more information, click here.
