Ian Kirkpatrick is an accomplished clogger / ballad singer from Claiborne County, TN. He received his BA from Mars Hill University in 2017 and his MA in Appalachian Studies from Appalachian State University in 2019. He has taught clogging as a Bailey Mountain Clogger, as well as in Junior Appalachian Musicians clogging courses in Madison County, NC. His Master’s thesis was entitled “Competition Clogging: Preservation and Innovation in Mountain Folk Dance.” Kirkpatrick received the South Arts 2020 Cross Borders Apprenticeship grant with Sheila Kay Adams for ballad singing. He believes everyone can sing, dance, and tell stories regardless of skill level.
