Creative Aging II Teaching Artist Roster

From Kim Johnson, Director of Arts Access –

The Tennessee Arts Commission is developing a roster of teaching artists to be trained in developing meaningful arts learning and experiences for older adults across Tennessee.  In partnership with Lifetime Arts, national leaders in creative aging program development and training, professional development training will be offered to individual artists and nonprofit arts organizations in curriculum design, sequential learning methods, and sustainable program models related to effectively teaching older adults.  Completing the training will be a prerequisite for being listed on the new Creative Aging Teaching Roster.  An upcoming Creative Aging grants opportunity in FY22 will specifically use these artists, who took the Lifetime Arts training, to provide programming. To express interest in becoming a part of this training, please see how to submit an interest form.  This training opportunity is being provided by a grant through the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA) in partnership with Aroha Philanthropies.

Twenty-five 25 participants representing a diverse range of geographic regions, art disciplines and teaching experiences will be chosen for participation.  There is no cost for this training, but participants must apply by May 19, 2021 and be accepted for one of the twenty-five (25) available training seats.

To qualify for this training:

  • Individual artists are people who by education, experience, or natural talent engage in a particular art form or discipline, or staff within nonprofit arts organizations who conduct arts programming for older adults and/or plans to provide this type of programming.
  • Artists must have lived and worked in Tennessee for three (3) years. Additional documentation may be required for proof of residency.
  • Artist and nonprofit arts organizations may work in a variety of art disciplines including visual, craft, photography, dance, music, theater, literary arts, and other art forms.
  • Participants must be at least 18 years old and not a full-time student (elementary, secondary, college, or university).
  • Both individual artists and nonprofit arts organizations must complete application process for the TN Arts Commission’s Creative Aging Teaching Artist Roster within three (3) weeks after receiving Lifetime Arts training.
  • Nonprofit arts organizations may have up to two (2) staff people who can attend the training. When completing the application process for the TN Arts Commission’s Creative Aging Teaching Artist Roster, the name of the organization must be present on the roster (not the names of the staff people).
  • Must be available to participate virtually in the entire training offered by Lifetime Arts.

A selection process will occur to choose artists and nonprofit organizations representing diversity in geography, art disciplines, ethnicity, organizations, and experience levels for a cross-section of representation across the state.  All applicants will be notified by email of their status by May 28, 2021 as to whether they have been accepted into the training.

Training Dates:

Participants who are selected will receive Lifetime Arts virtual training June 7 – 9, 2021 from 9:00 – 11:00 am, CST (10 AM – 12 NOON, EST).  More information will be provided after being selected to participate.  Another training for an additional twenty-five participants will be conducted in February 2022.
