Founded in 2003, Creative Aging Memphis is the only organization dedicated to enriching seniors’ lives through the arts in the greater Memphis area. Creative Aging’s Studio Course program, introduced in 2019, fosters learning and creative exploration through the arts. Talented, professional teaching artists teach at locations where seniors live and gather. Hands-on art courses reach diverse audiences, enhancing cognitive vitality and emotional well-being while making arts access a reality for participants. Studio Courses provide teaching artists meaningful opportunities to earn money while sharing their skills, helping sustain a thriving local arts community.

Creative Aging Memphis’ Studio Courses are lifelong learning courses based on national best practices. Led by professional teaching artists, these multi-session, skill-building courses provide older adults with access to participatory art making opportunities. Creating enhances seniors’ sense of control, offers social engagement, and improves mental acuity and attitude. Creative Aging offers over 40 unique courses in various disciplines at locations accessible to older adults throughout greater Memphis. Genres offered include painting, pottery, creative writing, storytelling, theatre, dance, several instrumental music courses, choral, and others.
