Sharkey’s photojournalist and editor career has spanned over 20 years. He has worked at WTVF NewsChannel  5  in Nashville since 2004. Before that, he was a photojournalist and editor at WZZM ABC 13 and WXMI FOX 17 in Grand Rapids, MI, as well as WILX NBC 10 in Lansing MI. In July 2007 Sharkey’s photographs, including this work were exhibited in the Tennessee Arts Commission Gallery.

“My photos are of natural settings in urban or rural parts of our lives. With my photojournalist background, I chose not to disturb or toy with the images I capture. I look for places and objects that have unique qualities. Sometimes they are qualities usually overlooked, but with the right angle and composition, they can be discovered for their attributes.” –Sharkey
