Quarterly Meeting to be Held in Memphis

By Anne B. Pope, Executive Director –

Centre-Photo-August-2015The Tennessee Arts Commission will hold its fall quarterly meeting in Memphis on September 23 at the Halloran Centre for Performing Arts at the Orpheum Theatre. The meeting will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and it is open to the public.

The Commission meeting agenda will include a report on Creative Placemaking grants, an update on the Economic Impact Study, as well as updates on two of the Commission’s strategic initiatives: Thriving Tennessee Arts & Culture and Arts Essential to Learning. Additionally, there will be a special presentation by ArtsMemphis.

We are looking forward to visiting Memphis and the Orpheum Theatre. The theatre has presented 6-8 Broadway shows yearly, as well as dozens of concerts, comedy acts and special events for the last three decades. Two of Memphis’ local arts groups, Ballet Memphis and Opera Memphis, have also called the Orpheum home.

We are also excited to be in the brand new Halloran Centre. Totaling over 39,000 square feet of space, the center will provide classroom space for a wide range of classes and workshops, a large multi-use rehearsal hall, a state-of-the-art stage and a 361-seat theatre — allowing the Orpheum to present more musicals, concerts, family programs and multicultural events.

The Orpheum is located at 225 S. Main Street in Memphis. The parking entrance is 118 2nd Street South, Memphis, Tennessee 38103, located off 2nd Street. For Valet Parking, turn left down the ramp.

Many thanks to the Orpheum for welcoming  us to their new facility.
