Purple Martins and the Schermerhorn Symphony Center Need Your Help

From Lindsay Gardner, Conservation Policy Manager, Tennessee Wildlife Federation –

150,000+ purple martins have roosted around the Schermerhorn Symphony Center as they gather to migrate south. It’s a pretty amazing spectacle—and it only lasts a few weeks. But the clean-up bill for the symphony is big—right when they can afford it least thanks to the pandemic. Tennessee Wildlife Federation (TWF) and The Nature Conservancy in Tennessee are launching a campaign to raise money from the public for the Nashville Symphony. It’ll run from 8/27 to 9/5.

It’d be cheapest for the Symphony to scare the birds off but that’d disrupt their migration (something they don’t want to do). Letting them stay and cleaning up after them is the most wildlife-friendly option. So, we’re rallying organizations and people around this win-win for wildlife, music, and the community. The Tennessee Wildlife Federation and The Nature Conservancy in Tennessee have pledged $5,000 to match donations from the public. You can help by donating found at the TWF webpage.
