Movers & Thinkers: Guardians of the Past—with TN Arts Commission’s Bradley Hanson

Movers & Thinkers NPRTennessee Arts Commission Folklife Director Dr. Bradley Hanson will be featured in the upcoming Movers & Thinkers #6: Guardians Of The Past podcast produced by Nashville Public Radio (NPR). Joining him are author Jennifer Justus and historian David Ewing.

NPR works to connect Middle TN through “trusted information, inspiring music and unique entertainment.” One of their many programs is the Movers & Thinkers Podcast. The podcast is produced from a live conversation hosted by Emily Siner and WPLN news. Topics of discussion vary—art, business, food, history and more.

Guardians Of The Past will give three avid ‘collectors’ the platform to discuss the places they look and ways they work to preserve the past, be it by collecting stories, recipes or artifacts.

Dr. Hanson joined the Commission in January 2015. An ethnomusicologist and folklorist, he previously worked as a member of the Cumberland Trail Music and Heritage project throughout TN. He has also collaborated on programming, preservation and documentary projects with organizations such as the Campbell Cultural Coalition and the Tennessee Archive of Moving Image and Sound. Hanson graduated from Brown University with a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology in 2014. His dissertation, Tuned Our Way: Music, Memory, and Heritage in East Tennessee, is currently being revised for publication by the University of Illinois Press.
