Equity in Verse Grant Deadline is Next Week

From Poetry Foundation –

The deadline to apply is Friday, October 14, 2022 by 11:59 PM (CT) through the online portal.

The Equity in Verse grant category was created in direct response to the June 6, 2020 community letter requesting that the Poetry Foundation examine its historic cultural debt to poets of color. These grants are intended to provide support for poetry and literary arts organizations, which include presses and publications, led and staffed by people of color. Poetry and literary arts organizations and programs that predominantly (80%+) serve BIPOC communities and BIPOC poets with programming designed by and for BIPOC communities will also be considered.

The Poetry Foundation acknowledges that the art, ideas, and labor of BIPOC people are integral to its work and poetry as an art form and that those contributions have gone underrecognized. Honoring the legacy of past BIPOC poets and making space for living and future poets are critical to the Foundation’s evolution.

In 2022, $1,000,000 will be available in this category for general operating support to BIPOC-led poetry-based organizations and literary arts organizations with a significant poetry focus and program support to nonprofit organizations with poetry programming. Grants range in size from $10,000-$100,000, and all grants are for a 12-month period.
