Creative Placemaking Competition Update

From Anne B. Pope, Executive Director –

The Creative Placemaking Grants Competition successfully closed last Friday, and I am pleased to say that we received over 40 applications.

This large number of applicants is composed of many organizations with excellent and innovative ideas and even a few new constituents to the Tennessee Arts Commission. True to the title, this initiative has turned out to be quite the competition. As previously stated on our website, the Commission expects to grant five to ten awards ranging from $5,000 to $8,000 for projects that occur in one place, or partnerships up to $10,000 – with a total of $50,000 being awarded for FY2016.

As we move into the review process of the applications, the Commission is confident that the chosen projects will bring to fruition the goal of creative placemaking: to animate public and private spaces, rejuvenate structures and streetscapes, improve local business visibility and public safety, and brings diverse people together to build shared understanding of culture and community. Award announcements will be made August 31.
