Capital Maintenance and Improvements Grant for Museums

Application Deadline August 25, 2025
For the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2025, the Tennessee General Assembly included a direct appropriation in the amount of $5 million to the Tennessee State Museum “for the sole purpose of providing grants to museums with a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or affiliated with a governmental entity for capital maintenance and improvements” (Section 36, Item 29 of the 2025-2026 Appropriations Act). This grant will be facilitated by the State Museum and is open to museums located in Tennessee.
This appropriation is separate from any other funding provided by the State of Tennessee to a museum and must be used for the capital maintenance and improvements as described in the grant application.
Museums are defined as a public or private nonprofit agency or institution organized on a permanent basis for educational or aesthetic purposes, which by utilizing a professional staff, owns or utilizes tangible objects, cares for them, and exhibits them to the public on a regular basis.
