An Evening of Master Dance Classes in Chattanooga

In celebration of WTCI’s new documentary, From the Street to the Stage, which chronicles the dance journey of Chattanooga native Fredrick ‘Fred’ Davis, Ballet Tennessee will host an evening of community master classes. Davis is an alumnus of the following Ballet Tennessee programs: Dance Alive, Talent Identification Scholar and Ballet TN Company. He has returned multiple times to perform on stage with the company and as a master instructor for the Ballet TN Summer Intensive.

Friday, September 18, 2015 Davis is joined by Brittany Johnson-Mills and Jenison Owens; also Dance Alive, Talent Identification Scholars and Ballet TN Company alumni to teach movement, ballet and hip-hop.  For each of these instructors dance began with an opportunity – Dance Alive.  They are now members of the performing arts.  Each in different stages of their professional dance journey but all young, talented artists developed in the Chattanooga community. Johnson-Mills is currently the Programs Administrator for Ballet TN. She teaches classes at Siskin Children’s Institute in addition to her classes at Ballet TN and Mountain Arts Community Center. Owens is completing her education at the University of Tennessee while performing with Ballet TN and teaching at the main location and Chattanooga Christian School.

  • 4:45-5:15 p.m. Brittany Johnson-Mills will teach a FREE creative movement class for children ages 4-6. This class isdesigned for special needs students and their typically developing peers. A small reception for the children follows. Donations appreciated.
  • 5:15-6:15 p.m. Fred Davis will teach a master ballet class for children ages 8-11. Cost is $15.
  • 6:15-7:45 p.m. Fred Davis will teach a master ballet class for Intermediate and Advanced dancers. Cost is $15.
  • 7:45-8:45 p.m. Jenison Owens will teach an Intermediate and Advanced Hip-Hop class Cost is $15.
