Alicia Fuss Accepts MTSU Tenure-Track Theatre Education Position

By Ann Brown, Associate Director of Grants –

Alicia Lark Fuss, TN Arts Commission Director of Arts Education, has accepted a tenure-track position in Theatre Education at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) beginning in August 2022. Alicia joined the Arts Commission in 2020 after a decade-long career in Arts Education at the Nashville Children’s Theatre. During her time at the Arts Commission, Alicia successfully managed a large Arts Education grants portfolio including Annual Grants and Student Ticket Subsidy; ushered several organizations through the TN Nonprofit Arts & Culture Recovery Fund application process during the pandemic; and supervised the execution of the TN Poetry Out Loud state finals—both virtual and in-person—helping the TN champion secure the National Poetry Out Loud 1st Runner-up award in 2021. Alicia also represented Tennessee and the southeastern region of the United States by serving on the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies’ Arts Education Working Group, contributing to the national conversation on Arts Education.

“Alicia has brought a wealth of arts education knowledge and a thoughtfulness to her work each day here at the Commission. She knows the field, has shown a willingness to learn the grants process, and has served on agency-wide initiatives from day one. While removed from the classroom and theatre, it is clear Alicia has kept educators, students, and her art form at the forefront of her work—making her contribution to the Commission’s Arts Education efforts that much stronger,” stated Anne Pope, Executive Director.

“Alicia’s background and interests are perfectly aligned for her new post in the MTSU Theatre Department. She will undoubtedly inspire emerging Theatre teachers for years to come. We wish her all the best at MTSU and hope that our paths cross again in this important work,” said Ann Brown, Associate Director of Grants. Alicia’s last day at the TN Arts Commission will be July 15, 2022.
