2017 Alliance of Artists Communities Conference October 2-5

Join arts leaders, funders, policy makers, community organizers, and artists from across the globe for the Alliance of Artists Communities’ 27th Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado, October 2-5, 2017. This annual event features three action-packed days of conversations, talks, tours and performances exploring how we can advance today’s artists and artist-centered community development. All are welcome.

From nuts-and-bolts sessions on organizational development to interviews with artists on creative practice, and from conversations exploring cultural trends to the role of artists in society today, plus tours of Denver’s thriving arts centers. Come join the conversation.

Artist Keynote: Okwui Okpokwasili
Okwui Okpokwasili is a multidisciplinary, Brooklyn based artist, whose Bessie Award-winning piece Bronx Gothic (2013) is the subject of a new documentary by Andrew Rossi. Okwui will deliver the artist keynote on Tuesday, October 3. Describing her artistic practice as occurring at the “intersection of theater, dance, and installation.” Her works are characterized by movement and gesture reflecting a dynamic interiority and singular psychic condition. Her focus is the embodied and ontological condition of being black, and being a woman.
