Welcome Michelle Sipes as Arts Learning Specialist

Michelle SipesWe are pleased to share that Michelle Sipes has joined the Tennessee Arts Commission as the new Arts Learning Specialist. In this role, Michelle will coordinate arts learning programs and resources geared toward students and artists, including Poetry Out Loud, Student Ticket Subsidy, and the Teaching Artist Roster. Michelle comes to us from Columbus, OH, where she worked for the Wexner Center for the Arts as a grant writer and teaching artist.

“Michelle’s background in both arts administration and arts education will serve the Commission well,” said Anne B. Pope, Executive Director of the Commission.  “We welcome her to our staff, knowing she’ll work hard to ensure that students throughout the state engage in arts experiences that prepare them for success in school, career, and life.”

Michelle has extensive experience as a performer and choreographer, and was a company member for five seasons with Inlet Dance Theatre in Cleveland, OH. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance from Belhaven University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Dance from the Ohio State University.

“I truly believe in the transformative power of the arts,” Michelle shared. “In my experience, I have found that quality arts education experiences are invaluable portals for learners to engage with and be inspired by the world and others around them.”
