Title VI Training for all FY17 Grantees to be Completed Before 1st Payments

By Kim Johnson, Director of Arts Access –

TITLEVI_CIn order to comply with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color or national origin, all entities that receive federal funding must conduct annual nondiscrimination training. All Tennessee Arts Commission grantees must also conduct this training in order to receive funding from the Commission, as written in contract section A.6.

All employees should understand and practice nondiscrimination. Each organization should have a dedicated staff person or volunteer who monitors Title VI compliance.

The FY2017 Title VI Training and Certification form is now available on the Tennessee Arts Commission eGrant website under “opportunities.”

Each organization should choose one of the three training modules to review. Module One consists of two-part videos. The videos are equipped with presentation slides and are designed for those who need to be knowledgeable of Title VI practices.  Module Two is a 26-minute video and provides a comprehensive overview of Title VI. Module Three a is 10-minute video and provides a brief overview of Title VI.

Once staff has watched the video(s), complete the online certification and print two hard copies. One copy of the certification MUST be printed and mailed to the Commission with your first request for payment or no later than December 16, 2016, whichever comes first. Keep the second copy of the certification at the organization for three years.

All grant funds will be held until training requirements are met.

Additional information about Title VI Nondiscrimination Training is in the contract compliance notes, section A.6.
