Young is known for wheel thrown and occasionally slab built functional and decorative ceramics, draws inspiration from nature. She studied at the Penland School of Crafts in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, and the School for American Craftsmen in Alfred, New York. After graduating from the School of American Crafts, Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York she began her business, Eagle Bend Pottery in Clinton.

Her work is in the collections of the Southern Highland Crafts Guild in Asheville, North Carolina and the Tennessee Arts Commission in Nashville. Her work has been published in Ceramics Monthly, Crafts and Craftsmen of the Tennessee Mountains by Helen Bullard, Artisans of the Appalachian by Edward DuPuy, and Tennessee Potteries, Pots and Potters 1790s – 1950 Volume 1. by Samuel D. Smith and Stephen T. Rogers.
