Fall Tapestry, n.d.
woven wall hanging, 31.25 x 2.5 inches each, 92.5B
These wall woven sculptures depict the summer and autumn seasons. Gaston is a member of the Tennessee Crafts Association, the Southern Highlands Guild, and the Piedmont Crafts Guild. In 2011 she was inducted into the Tennessee State Museum Fashion and Textile Institute in Nashville. The Summer and Fall Tapestry are both examples of her earlier work. Today, Gaston focuses her artistic energies on traveling and creating hand-woven wearable art and a series of exhibited garments made from recycled materials that pose more of an environmental statement.
I love making wearables that have lived previous lives and often incorporate vintage and found pieces in my work. As I feel our lives are somewhat chaotic, I like to interject a lot of the odd or confusing, finding this more interesting than perfection. – Gaston
