“Somewhere between 1969 and 1973, I lost all memory of ever wanting to be anything other than an artist. It became a love, a passion, and more! For me working with clay and a few simple tools continues to be all of these things plus it is a way of life for my whole family.” – Baucum
Studio potter, Baucum has been creating work for over 40 years. He has exhibited extensively in TN, MS and NC and has received numerous awards including an Individual Artist Fellowship award from the Tennessee Arts Commission in 2019. Many of the awards are for collaborative clay works with Brin Baucum, fellow potter and partner. They both received a B.F.A. from the Memphis Academy of Arts. Baucum in addition to being a full-time studio potter, he has also instructed ceramic classes at the Memphis College of Art. In 2017, both Dale and Brin mentored an up and coming ceramic artist in the Master Artist Apprenticeship Program. Articles about Baucum Pottery have been published in the City of Memphis Magazine, Ceramics Monthly, Studio Potter, The Commercial Appeal, Memphis Magazine, and Memphis Downtowner Magazine.
