In 2014, the Clarksville/Montgomery Arts and Heritage Development Council released the first edition of “C Is For Clarksville on the Cumberland” art-alphabet book. The project has already grossed $15,000 and netted $7,000 for the arts in Clarksville and Montgomery County. The alphabet book features work by local artists and takes us on a tour of Clarksville.

Kim McMillan, Mayor of Clarksville, as noted in the book, said, “Clarksville is important in the history of Tennessee and is built on a strong foundation of education, public service and fortitude. Everything about our city, from the culture to our geography, is unique.” Stories of the area’s history and current environment are accompanied by large colorful pictures that attract both young and older audiences. It’s a natural fit for schools, libraries and local bookstores.

“The book is perfect example of how to tell the story about your community through the arts,” said Anne B. Pope, Executive Director for the Tennessee Arts Commission. “It’s a great opportunity to help create a brand for a town, city or region in Tennessee. We hope that more arts councils will see the value in this type of project.”
