Anti-bullying message drummed into Wilson students

Students at Lakeview Elementary School in Wilson County got an anti-bullying message Friday the only way Zig Wajler delivers them.

“It was loud,” first-grader Foster Riley said.

Wajler, a Wilson County resident, is a musician with an emphasis on percussion who visits schools all across North America with different interactive music sessions that range from math and literacy to anti-bullying and respect themes.

“Just do the right thing,” Wajler told the students after getting their attention with a fast-moving array of drum beats on all sorts of percussion instruments.

Wajler used a number of musical genres from different cultures to encourage the students to be tolerant of differences.

“Be patient, have respect, be responsible, be confident,” he told the students. “And you know what? Help somebody else out when they need help.” …
