This bowl has a petite foot and an undulating rim edged in the outer layer of bark. To get concentric rings in the body of the bowl, the axis of the turning was oriented to the direction of the tree’s growth. Stein creates desirable wood objects from the wood grown in Tennessee. She trained with woodturning masters Ray Key, David Ellsworth and John Jordan, and was mentored by the late Charles Alvis. Her work can be found in select galleries and many private collections, as well as the permanent collection of the Tennessee State Museum. Stein was selected to design and create the 2007 Governor’s Arts Awards for the state of Tennessee. She was also featured on Nashville Public Television’s Tennessee Crossroads and on the Do It Yourself Network.
