Root studied at Ringling School of Art and Design and at Lyme Academy of Fine Art. For over 30 years she has painted large landscapes that have been exhibited across the Southeast and is in collections such as the Tennessee State Museum and the Opryland Hotel Convention Center in Nashville, Meadowview Hotel Conference Center in Kingsport, the Assisi Foundation and Promus Hotel Corporation Headquarters in Memphis, the Town of Jonesborough, TN Visitor Center and many others.
My paintings represent some of my ongoing experiments painting ‘en plein air’. My canvases are painted outside on location, usually over the course of several weeks. I am not trying to provide a snapshot of appearances or a demonstration of virtuoso brushwork, but rather a meditation in paint on a particular place in a particular time and what it feels like.–Peggy Root
