*UPDATED* Application Deadline: April 30, 2024

Grants of $10,000 for projects that extend the reach of the arts

Please Note: Grants.gov will be down for maintenance from April 20-23, 2024. The Challenge America Part 1 Grants.gov deadline has been moved to April 30, 2024 to allow applicants more time to submit. We still encourage you to submit Part 1 of your application early in order to avoid any issues.

Challenge America offers support primarily to small organizations for projects that extend the reach of the arts to underserved groups/communities. Read through program guidelines for the full program description, eligibility requirements, and review criteria.

As you prepare your Challenge America application, a reminder that submitting an NEA application is a multi-step process. Please follow the “How to Apply” step-by-step instructions on how to complete each part.

Helpful Resources for Applicants

The Challenge America grant category is a great entry point for organizations seeking NEA funding, with an abbreviated application and a robust structure of technical assistance. Helpful resources include:

  • Challenge America Webinar: Learn more about NEA annual funding opportunities and the Challenge America program through a webinar that was recorded and archived online.
  • Challenge America Applicant Q&A Sessions: An informal “office hours” style Q&A Zoom session, with staff available to answer questions about the FY25 Challenge America guidelines, application process, and deadlines. A series of virtual open office hours lead up to the application deadline. Register in advance for upcoming sessions on April 11th and May 13th.
  • Spanish Translation: Challenge America guidelines are available in both English and Spanish.
