The Unicoi Buffalo Project

The Unicoi Buffalo Project was a three-part project that celebrated the importance and role of the buffalo in Unicoi’s history. The Town of Unicoi partnered with Tanasi Arts & Heritage Center: to host an artist-in-residence to demonstrate wood carving and produce a large buffalo sculpture; hire local artists to paint an outdoor historically themed mural; and produce video about the buffalo’s influence on the town and its artists.

A detailed wooden relief sculpture depicts two bison standing in a natural setting. The artwork is mounted on a brick wall, with a plaque below that reads Timeless Bison. The artists signature appears on the lower right.

A man with glasses and a beard works on a large wooden panel featuring a sketched outline of a bison; he appears to be sanding or preparing the surface. The scene takes place on a covered porch.
