Carthage Junction Depot

The Carthage Junction Depot project began the restoration and renovation of the historic but endangered structure into a multipurpose space for local artists to display their work, encouraging greater appreciation for the arts. When completed, the space will also serve to preserve the history of rail in Smith County with a museum devoted to the history of railroads in Smith County as well as an exhibition dedicated to war veterans who set out from the original depot. The remodeled space will also include an internet café and kayak/bike rental space.

A small white building with a gray metal roof, boarded windows, and partial wood trim sits on a gravel lot, surrounded by trees under a cloudy sky. A tarp, some rocks, and a large dumpster are nearby.

Three people stand next to a weathered building, painting or preparing its exterior. The ground is covered with black plastic sheeting, and the sky is clear and sunny. Trees are visible in the background.

A man in overalls and work gloves uses a tool to work on the window frame of a weathered wooden building. He is focused on the task, leaning through the window opening.
