TN Dept. of Ed Seeks Feedback on New Education Law

By Ann Brown, Director of Arts Education –

Here’s your opportunity to communicate how the arts play a part in a well-rounded education

The Tennessee Department of Education is engaging stakeholders by asking for feedback on the new federal education law, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). This feedback will inform a Tennessee-specific ESSA plan which will impact standards, assessment, and accountability in Tennessee schools and may also impact arts education. For more information about ESSA and how it relates to arts education, see this memo.

The following feedback forms are due August 15, 2016.

Please take 10-20 minutes, to complete the General ESSA Feedback Form. Each question allows a maximum of only 500 characters, so brevity is key!

Also available are suggested talking points: click here for a list created by arts education leaders throughout Tennessee; click here for talking points created by the Southeast Center for Education in the Arts.

Parents and Students:

Complete the Parent & Student ESSA Feedback Form to communicate what a well-rounded education means to you and how your school supports your education or that of your child.
