Director of Arts Education
Chris Sweatt joined the Tennessee Arts Commission in August 2022. As Director of Arts Education, he develops and leads statewide grants, programs, and special initiatives that support arts learning across Tennessee, working with schools, arts organizations, teaching artists, and community partners.
Chris has served as a grant panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts, Chorus America, and multiple state arts agencies. His professional background includes music education, arts administration, curriculum development, and ongoing work as a professional music director, pianist, and arranger.
He holds a Master of Arts in Music Education from NYU Steinhardt, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Music Directing from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and is currently pursuing additional graduate studies in Learning Analytics and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Pennsylvania.
