If You Can't Stand the Heat

Blues City Cultural Center engaged Orange Mound community residents, ages 50 and over, as well as their care-givers, over a six-month period through serial drama and technology to explore health issues that disproportionately affect African American populations. Recordings of the serial performances were made available on Blues City’s YouTube Channel and played at the Christ Community Health Services and the Orange Mound Community Services Centers.

A group of elderly people sit in chairs in a meeting room, holding up red and blue cards indicating their votes. Most people appear engaged, and the room has maroon chairs and beige walls.

A man stands beside a seated elderly woman on a red sofa, gesturing with his hand. Another woman stands in the background with her arms crossed, watching the scene. They appear to be in a room with wooden chairs and burgundy curtains.

Four firefighters in uniform stand indoors; one holds a microphone and speaks, while the others listen. A man in the background stands by electronic equipment and a computer. The setting appears to be a community or meeting room.
