From an early age, Ling was exposed to art and artists. Her instruction in art began at the age of five. Her formal education in arts began with an arts high school. While a student, she did cartoons for newspapers, storyboards for an advertising agency and sold paintings through a local gallery in her hometown. Ling received her B.A. in Graphic Design from Qilu University in 1997 and she worked as a graphic artist in Shenzhen, China before moving to Knoxville, TN in 2019.
