Historic Gallatin Murals

The City of Gallatin installed two murals along Franklin Street, one portraying the bond that arose between black and white high school rival basketball teams, and the other portraying an influential citizen that helped bring the railroad to Gallatin. The project was intended to help revitalize a struggling downtown and create greater visibility for the farmer’s market. Partners included Gallatin Arts Council, Volunteer State Community College, Sumner County Historical Society, Gallatin Chamber of Commerce, and Sumner County Visitor’s Bureau.

A mural on a wall features two high school sports players: Eddie Sherlin of Gallatin High School Green Wave on the left and Bill Ligon of Union High School Red Devils on the right, with a VS 1970 emblem in the center.

A mural on a gray brick wall features two men in early 20th-century attire, train imagery, and the words L&N, Nashville Railway, and Gallatin, Tenn. A small building and train are depicted at the bottom.
