Discovery Center at Murfree Spring
The Discovery Center at Murfree Spring set out to create a permanent mural that celebrated the diversity of Tennessee through art. The completed We Are Tennessee mural utilizes artistic expression to build social awareness and cultivate community identity. The We Are Tennessee mural will be on permanent display at Discovery Center and will be viewed by an average of 120,000 visitors each year. The mural is also interchangeable, so in addition to the original 30 artists submissions, the Discovery Center plans to put out annual calls for new work that can be rotated in, allowing for a more fluid exhibit and opportunities for additional artist and community representation.
This mural was sponsored by the Children’s Museum Corporation of Rutherford County and the Tennessee Arts Commission’s FY19 Arts Project Support grant.
