“Pollinator Party”(29 x 17 feet) is a vibrant, nature-inspired mural that anchors Robert E. Lee Elementary School’s transformed courtyard, now a dynamic outdoor learning and sensory space. The design features a lively ecosystem of native pollinators—bees, butterflies and hummingbirds—interacting with colorful Tennessee flora, celebrating biodiversity and the interconnectedness of the natural world.
DMA Events partnered with Tullahoma City Schools to commission artist Megan Lingerfelt, who collaborated closely with school administration, the art teacher, and fourth- and fifth-grade educators to integrate curriculum-based elements into the work. The mural illustrates the life cycle of daisies—from seed to full bloom—surrounded by active pollinators, reinforcing key science concepts and extending STEAM learning beyond the classroom.
Both a visual focal point and an educational tool, the mural supports hands-on engagement with topics like ecosystems, plant science and environmental stewardship. Its use of movement, pattern and color creates a space that is visually engaging yet accessible and calming for students with sensory sensitivities. Designed with inclusivity in mind, the mural fosters curiosity, encourages outdoor exploration, and contributes to a welcoming environment that supports social-emotional well-being and collaborative learning.
The project was completed with additional support from Lingerfelt’s family, as her husband David and mother Jeanne assisted in the painting of this mural.
The mural was sponsored by the Tennessee Arts Commission’s FY26 Creative Placemaking grant and was managed by DMA Events.
