County:

In the 1930’s, Roane County was known for the largest Peach Tree Orchards in the South and was known as the “Kingston Peaches.” Outdoor Kingston created a mural celebrating Roane County’s peach orchard heritage and launched a web-based mural tour and interactive map. The project promoted the county’s history while boosting tourism and economic activity. By linking various murals, it created a cohesive cultural narrative for the community. Residents and youth engaged with their history through this accessible, place-based storytelling.

The mural was sponsored by the Tennessee Arts Commission’s FY21 Creative Placemaking grant and was managed by Outdoor Kingston.
