The Chilhowee Park Mural Project

The Chilhowee Park Mural Project selected a local artist to create a series of murals on park retaining walls and in a public walkway tunnel. With the aim of reconnecting the community to the public space and establishing the park as an asset that will drive private investment in the challenged surrounding area, the mural panels depict historic postcard imagery reflecting Chilhowee’s once esteemed place in Knoxville.

Three people stand in front of a mural painted on a wall. The mural features silhouettes of people, buildings, and a Ferris wheel in shades of purple, black, and gray. Bushes and trees are visible above the wall.

A group of thirteen adults stand in a row outdoors, holding a long green ribbon and scissors in front of a mural, participating in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on a sunny day.

A mural painted on a retaining wall depicts a small classical building on a hillside with abstract shapes in shades of green, purple, blue, and white. A single orange traffic cone sits in the parking lot in front.
