Southern Prize and State Fellowship Applications Due in Less Than One Month

Supporting nine visual artists with $80,000 in awards and a touring exhibition

Deadline: December 3, 2019

From Ivan Schustak, Communications and Development Director, South Arts –

South Arts’ Southern Prize and State Fellowships support the best visual arts being created in the South. Through a lens acknowledging the diversity of artists and creators in our region and utilizing the criterion of artistic excellence, our panel of jurors will select nine artists—one per state in our service area—to be named State Fellows and receive $5,000. A second panel will award one of the State Fellows the additional $25,000 Southern Prize as well as a two-week residency at The Hambidge Center for Creative Arts & Sciences, and also name a finalist to receive an additional $10,000. All nine artists will be featured in a touring exhibition opening this spring.

The Southern Prize and State Fellowships is open to visual artists working in a variety of mediums living in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
