Internship Opportunities with TN Person-Centered Music Program

The Tennessee Person-Centered Music Program (TPCMP) offers residents at participating Tennessee nursing homes personalized music as part of their care. The program is funded by a three-year Civil Monetary Penalty Grant from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services through the Tennessee Department of Health from February 1, 2019 to June 30, 2022. The award will fund 147 nursing homes and 2,205 residents throughout Tennessee.

How you make a difference in this role:
Assist in the coordination and implementation of the TPCMP in Tennessee. This full-time internship will report to the Legislative Liaison for the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability.  This position will work in conjunction with the Project Coordinators for the TPCMP.

Primary Responsibilities:

Assist TPCMP Project Coordinators with coordination and implementation of this program including but not excluding the following:

  • Scheduling appointment with the patient’s family members/ caregiver to fill out the music preference questionnaire
  • Complete music preference questionnaire for the patient
  • Creating playlist of 30 songs from information provided by the music preference questionnaire
  • Assist with virtual music screening sessions
  • Assemble the finalized playlist that includes only songs from the screening sessions that have elicited positive responses for the patient (approximately 30 songs)
  • Transfer the finalized playlist to the patient’s SD card
  • Label the SD cards and headphones to the corresponding patient upon final playlist completion

Other Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the distribution and collection of vital pre-and post-test survey information from nursing homes
  • Input survey information into data base
  • Aggregate data on a quarterly basis for sharing with the Advisory Council and CMS reporting
  • Assist in resolving technical issues for program
  • Attend Quarterly Advisory Council meetings (virtually)

Qualifications:

  • Students and/or recent graduates with Bachelor of Arts or Science in Marketing/Communications, Aging Studies/Gerontology, Music, and/or Health Sciences; nursing home or volunteer management experience a plus.
  • Ability to work remotely.
  • For Student Interns, must be in good academic standing (GPA of 2.5 or higher);
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the outset of the internship;
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States;

Position Duration: This internship is 100% grant-funded and is available for 8-week summer semester (June 2021 – August 2021).

SALARY:
Salary is set at $20 an hour.

LOCATION:
Remote work, location independent with site visits to nursing homes.  Depending on safety precautions and visitation policies, this position might be hybrid where majority of time spent working from home with occasional site visits to nursing homes.
