Local arts groups receive grants

Knox County’s arts community received $463,790 in grants Friday that will help fund music, museum exhibits and library programs.

The grants from the Tennessee Arts Commission come from state funds, federal funds from the National Endowment for the Arts, and from fees paid by Tennessee residents who purchase specialty license plates, according to a news release.

State Sen. Randy McNally, R-Oak Ridge, said the arts are “extremely important to our communities, especially in terms of education, economic development and cultural development.”
