The Gift-A-Tag program is here! Now, let’s join forces and put it to use. The specialty license plate voucher program was launched on Arts Advocacy Day in a press conference hosted by Treasurer David H. Lillard, Jr. In the wake of our ‘day on the hill,’ we continue to encourage the purchase and use of the vouchers. Also, feel free to share with us your creative ways of putting them to use.

For example, the Oasis Center recently used the voucher as part of a gift to volunteers. In celebration of two highly successful years of programming through the Underground Art Studio at Oasis Center, program coordinator Abby Whisenant decided to honor her dedicated volunteers with a unique gift. Abby purchased vouchers through the Gift-A-Tag program and paired them with palm tree trophies made by youth in the Oasis Center’s Emergency Shelter. Abby was inspired to include the vouchers as part of the volunteers’ gift package after attending Arts Advocacy Day and learning more about the Gift-A-Tag program. The palm tree is central to Oasis Center’s brand and represents a safe place created by volunteers for students to explore and create. The vouchers and trophies were given to the artist volunteers, including Jeff Danley, Ann Krafft, Susan Gardner, Derek Gibson, Jackie Tidwell and Susan Leath.

Abby explains, “We love the idea of honoring our artist volunteers by giving them something that sets them apart on the streets of Nashville – the arts license plate. At the same time, we’re empowering them as arts advocates and promoting this great new program and its importance to state-level funding of the arts. Overall, it was a really great gift choice – not sure how we will top it next year!”

Again, we encourage our constituents to promote this powerful way of supporting the arts in Tennessee. By following this link you can download logos, ads and flyers – both printable and web-friendly. By adding this information to your organization’s website and promotional materials you will be directly supporting the arts across the state.
