2015 IAF Winner, Montana Coll Torrey

By: Grace Robinson

Individual Artist Fellowship, Visual Art

Torrey_02Montana Torrey has travelled nationally and internationally in pursuit of art. After discovering in graduate school the freedom and opportunities that outdoor installations offered, she has developed her art to explore sites of protection, paranoia, absence and longing. Working outside of a gallery, Montana believes her projects are not confined to spacial dimensions and appreciates the possibility of a previously unaware audience. In addition to her outdoor work, her disciplines include photography, painting and sculpture.

Montana has a BFA in painting and a MFA in interdisciplinary studio; she is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at Lane College. Among other placements, she has been an Artist-in-Residence at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Headlands Center for the Arts, Vermont Studio Center, and the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture.

The Individual Artist Fellowship awards professional artists who have exhibited excellence in their discipline of choice. For more information, click here.
