1967-2017: Celebrating 50 Years of Tennessee Arts

By Anne B. Pope, Executive Director –

The Tennessee General Assembly created the Tennessee Arts Commission in 1967 with the special mandate to stimulate and encourage the presentation of the visual, literary, music and performing arts and to encourage public interest in the cultural heritage of Tennessee.

This year the Commission celebrates 50 years of cultivating the arts in Tennessee. Through a series of events, exhibits and documentation, we will reflect on the past as we plan for the future. Join us in celebrating this important milestone. Come along on the journey as we unfold highlights from the past, honor achievements made by organizations and arts leaders, and continue moving Tennessee communities forward through the arts.

The Commission congratulates the artists, arts organizations, educators and arts leaders of Tennessee for creating a legacy of 50 years.

Thank you for your dedication to the arts.
