Dr. Leo McGee

Dr. Leo McGee was appointed to the Tennessee Arts Commission in 2013.

In the past, his professional memberships have included the American Higher Education Association, National Association of Continuing and Adult Education, and Phi Delta Kappa. He has also been named a fellow with the Harvard University Institute for Educational Management and with the University of Tennessee Institute for Leadership Effectiveness. Leo’s honors include the President’s Award at Philander Smith College, the Distinguished Scholar Award at Ohio State University and a Young Leader in Education Award with Phi Delta Kappa International. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of Cookeville.

Leo worked at Tennessee Tech University for 30 years where he served as assistant dean of Extended Services, assistant, associate and interim vice president for Academic Affairs and professor of Education.

He holds master’s and doctorate degrees in education from Ohio State University, where he also served as assistant director and director of Student Teaching. Leo is the author of more than 40 professional articles, 20 creative and opinion essays and has written or co-written five books. He and his wife, Gloria, have two grown daughters.
